Route - 15.09.11
Did my final bit of training in preparation for THE RUN last night. My right knee is very painful still, even though I’ve been having lots of rest and not running much at all. I think I’ll be able to finish the race but I may not be able to walk for a few weeks afterwards! I’ll just wear a knee support and hope for the best.
In more positive news, my JustGiving page is up to 40% of my £1,000 total. Any donations much appreciated!
Also, we left it a bit late to book a place to stay in Newcastle on the night before the run, but I signed up to Couchsurfing and had two offers for a place to stay within a few hours! A guy called David is putting us up, driving us to the race the next day, and is cooking pasta the night before. The Internet is amazing and so are people.

Friday's Run
Click above to see my route and stats from Friday’s run. It was a shorter one because I was doing a mix of sprints mixed with walking, not because I’m slacking off!

Photo from last night’s run in Upton.
Last night was a bit of a revelation in that I ran on the front of my feet, kind of on my toes, for the first time ever (which is how you’re apparently meant to run and the reason why I was getting so many knee problems before). It felt way better although it was a bit weird at first and kind of unnatural. But it’s great to not be limping around the house today!

Hi friends. I am donning my short shorts once again to tackle the Bupa Great North Run in September, raising money for Christian Aid. Your sponsorship would be much appreciated. This year I am using a fancy running app for training on my phone and I’ll be posting all kinds of fun updates from my runs!
Please sponsor me here.
More news soon.

The lovely lady from Christian Aid sent me these two photos of me mid-run. See, I wasn’t pretending.
In other news, £1,017!

£1,007
Thanks to some extremely kind donations last night, we finally tipped the £1,000 mark for my run! Thank you so much to everyone who donated some money. £1,000 is a huge amount. The Christian Aid guys were so grateful for the amount we’d raised at the run, and I want to extend that gratitude to you - all I did was run around for an hour and get a bit sweaty, but it was you guys who dug deep and gave money, so thank you very much.
In the last email that my contact at Christian Aid sent me she said, “tell them just £11 will provide drought-resistant seeds for one family which ensures the next harvest provides enough food to last through the year”. By my maths, that means that together we have provided drought-resistant seeds for 91 families, which will provide them with enough food for the next year. I don’t know about you, but that makes me pretty excited.
However, Christian Aid do so much more than just providing seeds. You can read all about their work on their website and you could even sign up to give them a regular donation if you’re feeling frivolous. Please ‘like’ Christian Aid on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to keep up to date with all their work.
Lastly, if you wanted to donate some money for my run but haven’t got around to it yet, my JustGiving page will be open for a few weeks yet, so feel free to give something as and when you can.
Thank you!

I found my results on the 10K website. 00:49:49. Not bad for the kid who couldn’t do sport at school.
I’m up to £930 on my JustGiving page. Does anyone want to chip in to push things up to the £1000 mark? It’s just a much nicer number. Please?

If 176 people sponsored me £1…
or 88 people sponsored me £2, or 44 people sponsored me £4, or 22 people sponsored me £8, or 11 people sponsored me £16, or five and a half people sponsored me £32… then I would reach the grand total of £1000 for my run tomorrow. Can you spare a little something? Click here.
P.S. do you like the look of my nipples?
